A new system is being rolled out in Pakistan to make it easier and quicker to apply for visiting visas to the UK.

Access UK, formerly Online Application Service, officially opened on Tuesday and is designed to allow customers to also access their applications through their smart phones or tablets.

The system, introduced by the UK Visas and Immigration Service, means customers can apply, book an appointment and pay with a choice of standard or priority service online.

The Home Office said the service can be used for those applying for a standard visitor visa, visitor (marriage and civil partnership) or visitor (permitted paid engagement) visa.

More than 3,000 applicants used the service over one month after its launch in India in February. In March the service was introduced in Turkey with 100% of visit visas being processed within 15 working days.

According to the newspaper Pakistan Today the visa service has been designed specifically with the local customers in mind. It allows customers to book a Visa Application Centre (VAC) appointment and pay for the relevant service – displaying the price in Rupees – via MasterCard, Maestro, Visa, PayPal and Skrill. The new service is available in Urdu, although answers need to be English.
