A new UK Visa Application Centre has opened in Gambia, West Africa, moving from its former location at the British Embassy.

Customers are being charged an extra fee of £55 in addition to the visa application fee which the British Embassy says: “allows UK Visas and Immigration to continue to offer a visa service in The Gambia and ensures that customers do not have to travel long distances, or to another country, to apply for a visa.”

The new centre has opened in the capital Banjul and will be run by UK Visas and Immigration’s global commercial partner for UK visa services, TLS Contact.

FedEx will manage the Visa Application Centre with no changes to the UK application process.

Customers can make appointments to submit visa applications on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and can collect their passports on any week day.

A British Embassy spokesman said: “With TLS Contact operating Visa Application Centres on our behalf, UK Visas and Immigration have more flexibility to drive improvements in customer service, with greater access to added value services and premium products such as priority visas and direct return courier options.”
